چکیده

We explore supersymmetric Type I string-motivated three-family scenarios in which the Standard Model is embedded within two sets of intersecting D branes with U(1)-extended Pati-Salam gauge groups. We study a model inspired by the Shiu-Tye Type IIB orientifold, in which a three-family scenario is obtained by assuming that the gauge symmetry breaking takes place in two stages; the Pati-Salam group arises from diagonal breaking of the U(N) gauge groups, which is then broken to the SM gauge group. We investigate the diagonal breaking scenario in detail and find that generically there are difficulties involved in decoupling the exotic Higgs remnants. On the phenomenological side, proper low energy gauge coupling predictions effectively lead to a “single brane” scenario for MString ∼ MU ≃ 1016 GeV. The soft parameters in this limit are constrained by a well-known sum rule, leading to a distinctive phenomenological pattern for the low energy mass spectrum.

Model building with intersecting D6-branes on smooth Calabi-Yau manifolds

We study intersecting D6-branes in Calabi-Yau manifolds that are smooth hypersurfaces in weighted projective spaces. We develop the techniques for calculating intersection numbers between special Lagrangian sub-manifolds defined as fixed loci of anti-holomorphic involutions. We present global Pati-Salam and MSSM-like models that are supersymmetric up to a decoupled hidden sector. ∗email: palti@...

Aspects of Stability and Phenomenology in Type IIA Orientifolds with Intersecting D6-branes

Intersecting branes have been the subject of an elaborate string model building for several years. After a general introduction into string theory, this work introduces in detail the toroidal and ZN -orientifolds. The picture involving D9-branes with B-fluxes is shortly reviewed, but the main discussion employs the T-dual picture of intersecting D6-branes. The derivation of the R-R and NS-NS ta...

Chiral D-brane Models with Frozen Open String Moduli

Most intersecting D-brane vacua in the literature contain additional massless adjoint fields in their low energy spectrum. The existence of these additional fields make it difficult to obtain negative beta functions and, eventually, asymptotic freedom. We address this important issue for N = 1 intersecting D-brane models, rephrasing the problems in terms of (open string) moduli stabilization. I...

Supersymmetric Particle Physics from Intersecting D-Branes

We review recent progress that has been made in the study of particle physics implications from Type II string with intersecting D-branes. While in the past the focus was on deriving particle physics of four-dimensional N=1 supersymmetric solutions of perturbative heterotic string, recent progress has focused on Type II string theory orientifold compactifications with D-branes. We describe exam...

MSSM GUT String Vacua, Split Supersymmetry and Fluxes

We show that previous proposals to accommodate the MSSM with string theory N=0 non-supersymmetric compactifications coming from intersecting D6-branes may be made fully consistent with the cancellation of RR tadpoles. In this respect we present the first examples of non-supersymmetric string Pati-Salam model vacua with starting observable gauge group SU(4)c × SU(2)b × SU(2)c (SU(2) from Sp(2)’s...
